Looking For Feedback
Hello Everybody!
I have been thinking recently about defining poverty; Especially when it comes to living conditions.
How would you define living in poverty? Do you think our definition and overall idea of poverty has changed over time?
Please post comments and the blog. Let me know what you think...

One is in poverty when he/she does not have the means (i.e., job, parent, guardian, etc.) to meet basic needs (water, food, shelter, clothing).
ReplyDeletePerhaps because of the degree of wealth in the United States, the concept of poverty gets stretched to include people who may be poor but not actually in poverty.
I agree with matt's definition of poverty, but yes the definition has changed in the USA. Telephones used to be considered a luxury item but I now pay an extra tax on my phone bill so our government can provide this "necessity" at reduced or no charge to low income people. Disposable diapers have also become a "necessity." Forget Herod! How did Jesus ever survive without disposable diapers?
